Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Shippensburg High School where he participated in football, wrestling, and track. After graduation, Jerry attended one year at Shippensburg State College before enlisting in the United States Navy. He was stationed at the US Navy Air Station in Quonset Point, Rhode Island and served as an Aviation Electronics Technician on the USS Wasp. In his spare time Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Left behind to cherish his memories a wife of thirty years, Peggy Martian Porter; his children, Renee' (Bob) Lunsford, Matthew (Linda) Porter; his stepchildren, Gregory (Christal) Christman, Gretchen (Jason) Keeter; ten grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Porter.
Interment will follow at 2pm at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk, VA with military honors.
