Sandra Sue Byrd, 81, Altus, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 at Magnolia Creek Skilled Nursing in Altus. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Bob Mills and Carl Clayton officiating. Private family burial of cremated remains in the Hollis Fairmount Cemetery will take place at a later date. Services have been entrusted to Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Sandra Sue Spradling was born June 26, 1939 to Sherman and Billy (Hendrick) Spradling in Wichita, Kansas. The family moved to Southwest Oklahoma where Sandra attended the Gould School through the 8th grade and graduated Hollis High School with the Class of 1957. She married Terry Byrd on November 15, 1957 in Perry, Oklahoma. Sandra continued her education at Central State University, attaining a Bachelors of Science in Education and graduated Magna Cum Laude. She taught 8th grade English at Northeast Junior High, Southeast Junior High and later at the combined Altus Junior High in Altus for 23 years before retiring in May of 1999. Sandra was a member of the Tamarack Road Church of Christ; enjoyed shopping, cooking, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jon Kyle Byrd and her brother, John William Spradling. She is survived by her husband, Terry; two sons, Craig Byrd; and Blake Byrd and wife, Mandy; five grandchildren, Chad Byrd and wife, DeLana; Sean Byrd and wife, Tamara; Tyler, Colby and Blakely Byrd; five great grandchildren; Noah, Madison, Austin, Marley and Ava Byrd; sister, Betty Roberts and husband, James; two sisters-in-law, Fran Shaw and husband, Hooty; and Lorraine Spradling; brother-in-law, Tom Byrd and wife, Karen and many students, school associates and friends.
The Byrd family will greet friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
