Daniel "Dan" A. Schreiner, 97, was born May 31, 1923, to Joseph and Margaret (Kuhn) Schreiner in Hays, Kansas. He died on August 18, 2020, in Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was educated in Hays and began home construction under the wing of his brother, Jerry. Later he branched out on his own and operated under "Schreiner Construction" building homes in Hays, WaKeeney and surrounding towns.

Dan met the love of his life, Jennie Ruder, and they were married on May 1, 1944. They raised five children in WaKeeney and later moved to Hays after retirement.

Dan was an avid bowler and sponsored his own team for years. He and Jennie enjoyed entertaining friends for great meals, lots of card games, weekend dances and long visits over dessert and coffee. Their home was always "the place" for their five children to invite friends over to play basketball, eat like crazy and interact with Dan and Jennie. Dan was a loving, caring, faithful spouse, father, grandfather, and great grandfather as a carpenter following Christ's footsteps.

They both set a great example practicing their faith and that proved to be vital in getting through tough times and celebrating good times. Dan used a line repeatedly and that was,"There's a time to be serious, but not very often". That seemed to put things into perspective in every area of his life. Dan was known for his long list of Schreinerisms (comical one liners) which produced eye rolls and laughter, and these will probably be passed onto future generations.

Dan was one of 13 children. Bill, Josie, Albert, Jerry, Irene, Oliva, Eddie, Helen, Clarence predeceased him. Adeline Saia, Topeka, KS, Joe (Marie) Las Vegas, NV and Herb (Dotsy) Albuquerque, NM are still living.

Other survivors include daughter Cori (Peter) Quist, Bismarck, ND, Art, Topeka, Stephen (Marcia) of Manhattan, Noel, Manhattan, Neal (Martha) Spring Hill, 10 grandchildren including Troy Stenzel, Homer, AK, Laurie (Jamie) Stowe, Peculiar, MO, Jennifer Schreiner, Americus, KS, Megan Tony, Rochester, MN, Emily Schreiner (Chris Jensen) Brighton, CO, Erin Langfels (Alex) St. Paul, MN, Katie Rice (John) Blackfoot, ID, Danny Schreiner (Tara) KC, Jenna Stutz (Jon) Wichita, KS, Jamie Tuchalski, (Ben) Wichita, KS, and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM August 22, 2020, Visitation will be at 1 PM until service time all at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory, 2509 Vine St. Hays, Kansas. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
