PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -John H. Burch, 71, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died Aug. 7, 2020, at Venice Hospice Hospital in Venice, Florida.

John was born in Milford, on Nov. 9, 1948, to the late John and Irma (Wilkinson) Burch.

He graduated from Milford Central School in 1969 and was senior class president. John soon joined the United States Air Force and was very proud to serve his country during the Vietnam War as a Load Master on the C-141 Star Lifter.

After his service, he made his home in Centralia, Illinois, where he worked more than 35 years for the Illinois Central-Canadian National Railroad, leading the Paint Shop and as Car Department Foreman. Upon his retirement in 2010, he moved to Punta Gorda. John enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, boating, walking along the beaches and waterways, singing and playing several instruments, dancing with his wife, activities with grandchildren, and walking his dog. With a lively sense of humor and innate friendliness, he delighted in telling jokes and stories; truly loving life and making those around him feel valued.

John's family was dearest to his heart and includes his loving wife, Marilyn (Foltz); son, Jeremy of Jamesville; grandchildren, Zack, Alex, Jake, Jade Cox; and greatgrandson, Zane; daughter, Amanda Meininger, husband, Will and grandson, Maximus of Manchester, Missouri; and son, Matthew of St. Peters, Missouri. He also kept a special place in his heart for his first wife, Monica Collins, and husband, Bob of St. Charles, Missouri. His loving nature extended to three stepdaughters and their families, Cassandra (Mumby) Peterson, husband, Shawn, grandchildren, Aidan, Allie, and Simon of Littleton, Colorado; Barbara (Mumby) Smith, husband, Kevin, grandsons, Tucker and Tate of Apopka, Florida; and Natalie (Mumby) Petersen, husband, Berndt, granddaughters,

Brightlyn and Ariana of Alpharetta, Georgia. John's siblings and their spouses are Laura Jennings, husband, Douglas (both deceased), of Dryden; Lura McHale, husband, Edmund, of Hardwick, Minnesota; Christine Ehlinger, husband Paul of Monaca, Pennsylvania; Kathleen Doyle, husband, Thomas of Rensselaer Falls; Aleta Payne, husband, Willie of Willingboro, New Jersey; Colleen Burch Johnson, husband, Reid, of Corvallis, Oregon; Dwight Burch, wife, Laurie, of Milford; and Melody Woody, husband, Mark, of Canastota. In addition, the family includes 18 nieces and nephews, their children, many cousins, and an uncle, Sharon Sprague, of West Winfield. John made friends wherever he went, and in Punta Gorda formed a sincere bond with Kenneth Wyatt (deceased) and sister-in-law, Barbara Wyatt. Both family and friends will miss John immensely.

John was thankful for his ministry caregivers at the First United Methodist Church of Punta Gorda and Catholic Church Eucharist Ministry.

Arrangements have been made by Roberson Funeral Home for a Military Honors Ceremony at 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, Missouri.
