Tom was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 18, 1947. His parents were Dale Maher and Dorothy Maher (Levzow) who were a military family headed to post- war Germany with young Thomas. Tom lived all over the world in the ensuing years as a “military brat” that instilled in him early the love of travel. Tom Graduated High School in New Jersey and then he promptly went to St. Louis University and joined Air Force ROTC. He was commissioned after graduation from SLU as an officer in the United States Air Force doing film work for USAF training. He was honorably discharged as a 1st Lt. in the USAF in 1974. After Tom’s military years he went on to get his Masters and Doctors degree in English Literature and Film Studies from St. Louis University and University of Southern California. He married Alison Stuart Maher and were married for many years before divorcing later in Tom’s life. Dr. Maher was a Director of Instructional Services at Colorado State University from 1994 through 2007 and then retired.
Thomas loved to read, travel to exotic locations, own specialty automobiles, and he especially enjoyed creating custom homes indulging his appreciation of design, custom wood working and detail. He loved his family, brother, nieces, close friends, Saint Louis University and especially his Irish heritage.
Tom died unexpectedly on August 16, 2020 while working through a recent lung cancer diagnosis.
