Known as "Ricky" or "Rick" to those who knew him best, he was a faithful servant of the Lord for many years. Born on February 7, 1954, in Durham, NC to Lewis and Sarah Chambers, he and his siblings grew up working in the fields and running barefoot over dirt roads.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ruby Chambers; his siblings, David Chambers and his wife, Theresa, Gail Cook, and Deborah Baker and her husband, David; his sons, Chris and his wife, Jennifer, Dave and his wife, Ruth, and Steven and his wife, Laine; along with ten grandchildren: Michaela, Grace, Molly, Mary, Davey, Lydia, Caleb, Mary Claire, Levi, and Lucy.
Rick accepted Christ as his Savior when he was about ten years old and then followed the Lord in baptism by immersion. Rick was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Matthews, NC for almost 50 years. Though he was never called of God to be a pastor or a missionary, he was the epitome of a full-time Christian servant. He lived his life serving God, serving His family, and serving others. His life and testimony can be best summarized in one word: faithful.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 22nd, at 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon at Bible Baptist Church in Matthews, NC. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at Sunset Memory Gardens in Mint Hill following the service.
