OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Tuesday, 22 November 1938:
J. A. Swinney, 79, died at his home in Elkhart Monday afternoon after a short illness. Mr. Swinney suffered a paralytic stroke last week.
Funeral rites will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Elkhart Methodist church with Rev. B. A. Waltman, Methodist minister, officiating.
Survivors are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. J. B. Berry of Palestine, Mrs. Mary Walling of Elkhart, Mrs. R. B. LaCroix of Alexandria, La.; one son, S. H. Swinney of Palstine; one brother, J. H. Swinney of Woodville, 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be six grandsons: Chester Leo and Alphus D. Swinney, Bernard and Howard berry and Harold and Charles Walling.
