A rosary will be recited for Benito H. Astorga of Roswell at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be celebrated for Benito at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at St. John's with Father Juan Montoya O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Benito passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at Sunset Villa Care Center.

Benito was born to Ismael Astorga and Santos Hernandez Astorga on March 21, 1936, in Inde, Durango, Mexico. He moved to Roswell thirty-seven years ago. Benito and Victoria Cadenas were married Feb. 13, 1971; Victoria preceded Benito in death in 1997. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Benito worked for Mr. Kenneth and Randy Jennings until his retirement. Benito enjoyed playing dominoes, watching boxing, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.

Benito is survived by his children, Mary S. Hernandez, Diana Longoria and her partner, Josue Ramirez, David Cadenas and his wife, Susan, and Susan Cardenas and her husband, Pedro, all of Roswell; a brother, Feliciano Astorga of Mexico; a sister-in-law, Amada Cadena of Mexico; a special granddaughter that he raised and loved like a daughter, Regina Zavala; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren with three more on the way; daughter-in-law, Shirley Avalos; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Victoria, Benito was preceded in death by his step-children, Gilda De La Cruz and Ramon M. Avalos, parents, five sisters, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Concepcion Torrez.

Pallbearers will be Jesus A. Hernandez, Pedro Cardenas, Alex Guebara III, Damian Hernandez, Nicolas Longoria, and Jose G. Zavala.

A heartfelt thank you in appreciation to Dr. Evan Nelson, all the staff of Sunset Villa, and Vista Care Hospice for all the kind words and for everything you did for our father and grandfather. God Bless each and everyone of you.
