Dale L. Deckard
April 5, 1932 - August 16, 2020

Dale was the first born of seven children by Ralph Roscoe and Ruby (Frye) Deckard. Dale passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 16, 2020. He was 88 years old. He was loved tremendously by his entire family. Dale was a man of many talents. After his retirement of 25 years of service from Indiana University, he continued his career for a few years with his son, Eddie in the construction and maintenance business.

Dale was a hardworking man. A great dad and a great grandfather. Family was first and foremost to him. He was married on April of 1951 and drafted into the Marines in December. He was proud to serve his country and proud to be a veteran.

Dale married the love of his life on April 26, 1951, Verna Mae Eads in a small house on Shields Ridge Road. They celebrated 52 years of marriage and had four children. Dale was a loving father. He made all his children feel special. Family was his foundation.

Dale is survived by his sisters, Delores (Midge) Eads, Daisy Sympson; daughter, Sandra Neidigh; son, Eddie (Beverly) Deckard; daughter, Sara (Joedy) Dillard. Grandchildren, Brittney (Pat) Davis, Dustin (Leigh) Dillard, Alexa Neidigh, Clayton (Brandi) Dillard and Tyler (Sarah) Deckard. His great grandchildren, who were the light of his life and always made him proud, Brylee Davis, Brooklyn Davis, Samson Dillard, Annleigh Dillard, Cooper Dillard, Clara Dillard, and Verna Dillard.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Jerry Michael; his loving wife, Verna Mae Deckard; sister, Diane Gron; and brothers, Delmer Deckard, Don Deckard, and Dwight (Mike) Deckard.

The family also wants to thank Dale's lady friend and companion, Charlette Sowders. He enjoyed their time spent, friendship, long drives, conversations, and just being with each other. Also, Dale was a deeply religious man and loved the Lord.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery.
