Jim was known throughout the community for solving mechanical problems of multiple scales and daily spent daily in his shop, tinkering on his latest project. All things thrived under his management, including the family farm where his stewardship of the land was evident.
Jim was active in the Lincoln Salem Church, and served as an elder and president of the church board. He was a favorite Sunday school teacher of high school students for many years. Jim was on the board of the Lincoln Farmers CO-OP and became the president of that organization. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years.
Jim was the eldest son of Ray and Minnie Hooper of Gladbrook, Iowa, and grew up on the family farm south of Gladbrook. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in the Class of 1943 and was first employed by Fairchild Implements as a mechanic.
Jim married Clara Jean Martens on October 16, 1949, and after finishing his stint at Fairchild's, spent the majority of their 70 married years farming. They enjoyed fishing, square dancing, listening to music, and visiting with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife Clara Jean; sons Steven (Elizabeth) and John (Karen); grandchildren Jason, Heather, Allen (Jamie), and Brian; great-grandchildren Thomas, Patrick, Mason, Emily, and Zelle; sisters Maxine Schoel, Phyllis Moeller, Doris Chabal; and brother George.
He was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Minerva and his sister Lois Dierks.
