Michael (Mike) Wayne Barnett, age 60 of Shawnee Township (Crestline), Kansas went to fish on the Crystal Sea with Jesus by his side on August 17, 2020 with friends and family by his side. Mike was born July 27,1960 to Thomas Barnett and Wilma (Burrows) Barnett in Columbus, Kansas.

He married the love of his life, Shelly (Hibbard) Barnett, on June 23, 1978 in Galena, Kansas. Mike loved his family and was a great Papa to his 10 grandkids who he spoiled very much.

He always had candy in his pockets for the grandkids and the children at church. He loved to fish, hunt, shoot traditional bows, spend time with his family and he loved his and Shelly's little cabin on Sunflower Hill that was filled with love and laughter.

Mike graduated from Riverton High School with the Class of 1978. He worked at Spring River Inn while in high school. He then worked on the railroad for Jimmy Earl Livingston, at Gulf Chemical, Tamko, Crescent Mattress Company, and the' Cherokee County Highway Department where he worked for 25 years. He held several positions, retiring in 2019 as the Bridge Crew Foreman. He was a member of the Joplin Calvary Church of the Nazarene.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, Thomas A. Barnett and his mother-in-law, Connie Sue (Wade) Hibbard.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shelly; his three children and their spouses, Cassie and David Adams, Heath and Regina Barnett, and Newley and Ruth Anne Barnett, all of Riverton; grandchildren, Michael and Nathaniel Adams, Madi, Hunter, Betty, Winter and Bow Barnett, Aubrey, Shelbey and Justice Barnett; his mother, Wilma (Bill) DeHart and father-in-law, Mike (Rhonda) Hibbard; siblings, Tommy Joe (Sherry) Barnett, Janet (Johnny) Zwahlen, Arthur (Angel) Barnett, and Brenda (Mike) DeRusse, and brother-in-law, Clay (Kelly) Hibbard; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins and his church family.

Mike has been entrusted to Derfelts funeral home for cremation. The Celebration of Life will be held at Joplin Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 2801 Connecticut, Joplin on Saturday August 22nd at 2:00. Family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 on that day Pastor Wesley Anderson will officiate. Mike will be laid to rest on Sunflower Hill, 443 N. E. 97th Terr., Galena, KS. Please bring lawn chairs and plan to share memories or stories of Mike. Also, please consider carpooling as there will be limited parking on Sunflower Hill.
