James "Jay" B. Godfrey, age 86, of Canton, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2020 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Michael McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
Mr. Godfrey was a retired postal carrier. He was a cattle farmer and enjoyed gardening.
Jay was preceded in death by his sons, Jonathan Godfrey and Anthony Godfrey; three brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Godfrey; daughter, Jamiee Godfrey Cline; stepdaughter, Sally Decker; six grandchildren, Blake Cowart, Clint Decker, Jada Cline, Jayce Cline, Brittiny Bagshaw and Autumn Clark; brother, Jeremiah Godfrey; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Due to COVID-19 facial coverings are required, no food is permitted and the seating at the funeral home is set for social distancing.
