Jean Yvonne Gardner Ducharme, an amazing loving wife, mother and grandmother of Windsor, Vermont, passed away peacefully in her home on August 15, 2020, to meet her Father in Heaven at age 82. Jean was born on September 20, 1937 at Mary Hitchcock Hospital to Doris George Gardner and George Edward Gardner. At age 7 years old Jean lost her father to WWII and was raised solely by her mother who never remarried. She is the eldest of three other siblings; George Gardner of Due West, SC; Norma Luckenbach who passed away in 2019 of Concord, NH, and Richard Gardner who recently passed away this past June of Georgetown, DE.

Jean grew up in Enfield, NH and Windsor, VT graduating from Windsor High School in 1955 with a love of music, art and acting. She then graduated from Mount Ida College of Newton, MA as a Medical Secretary, but admitted her favorite classes were the art classes she snuck into at Harvard University! Jean later worked as a secretary at State Street Elementary School in Windsor, at Saint- Gaudens National Historical Park of Cornish, NH and then 16 years at the VA Hospital in WRJ, VT, as a research medical secretary retiring early due to the diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis.

Jean married the love of her life Milton Alton Ducharme on September 11, 1959. She would then become a Navy military wife for almost 20 years living in such places as Rhoda, Spain; Pawtuxet, MD; Brunswick, ME and Beeville, TX and then back home to Windsor, VT.

Jean became a Born Again Christian in 1971 in a small Baptist church in North Kingstown, RI. It changed her life! She led her husband, her children and siblings to their own relationship with the Lord. When meeting anyone it would be one of her first questions, "Do you know the Lord?" Her favorite Bible verse was Psalms 46:10; "Be still and know that I am God; I will be honored by every nation, I will be honored throughout the world". Throughout the difficult times in her life and her failing health, she never wavered in her faith with Jesus.

Jean was the most adored mother of four children; Terri-Lynn Ducharme McMahon married to Chuck McMahon of Windsor, VT; Steven Ducharme married to Jody Karnedy Ducharme of Goffstown, NH; Tracie Ducharme Downey married to Charles Downey of Northborough, MA and John Ducharme married to Karen Bays Ducharme of Charlestown, NH. Jean was the grandmother to 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Jean was loved by many and had many "adopted" children who loved and was loved by Jean. She made all who knew her feel loved, accepted and part of her family.

Jean was an incredible artist, dancer and piano player; she was comfortable playing as the church organist for over 30 years at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Windsor, VT, as well as playing the song "Summer Nights" from the movie "Grease". Even when MS took the use of her left hand, she would play with her right; it was this strong will that kept her walking, dancing and playing longer than the doctors expected! She and Milt were the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. Jean was also an accomplished artist and photographer winning awards in both subjects.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jean on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Downey Cabin, Route 44, Windsor, Vermont. In the event of rain, the Celebration will be postponed to Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 1PM.

Arrangements have been entrusted with Knight Funeral Home in Windsor.
