Samuel P Murphy married Elizabeth Sims on January 18, 1844 in Winston County, Mississippi. On the 1850 census it shows Samuel's birthplace to be Alabama and the family were living in Winston, Mississippi with two sons Thomas and James Murphy. On the 1860 census it shows his birthplace to be Mississippi and the family lived in Jackson County, Louisiana. They added to the family two daughters and two sons, Almeda, Mary, David and Elisha Murphy. There are some theories of who his parents may be but I have yet to find clear cut evidence of who they are. There is also a birthday and death day listed for Samuel P. Murphy on some family trees on Ancestry but i'm not sure where those dates came from as I have found no record of any dates for Samuel. On the 1870 census it has his wife and children listed by first initial and last name and Samuel is not on the census. They added to the family S. Murphy, J Murphy and T. Murphy. The family still lived in Jackson County, Louisiana. Elizabeth later married again and had two more kids with Mr. Broom. To this day a burial site for Samuel has not been located. Samuel may have had a sister named Emeline Murphy who married a James Clark. They also married in Winston County Mississippi. I have 11 DNA matches that tie back to her on Ancestry. So that's a strong possibly they are siblings.
