Mildred "Nan" Robinson-Fields-Ward, 101, went to her new home in Heaven Friday, August 14, 2020. Mildred worked as a cashier and was an employee of the McDowell County Board of Education where she worked as a cook and later an aide. She retired from the school system as an aide and then for several years proudly babysit over 25 children.
Mildred was born on December 12, 1918 in Berwind, WV to the late Josiah Robinson (Deceased) and Laura Marrs-Robinson (Deceased). In addition to his parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Clyde Fields (1919-1971); second husband, Joe "J.E." E. Ward (Deceased); daughter, Janie Fields (Deceased); granddaughter, Jennifer Fields (1982-2014); granddaughter-in-law, Shelia Rice (Deceased); son-in-law, Harvey Rice (Deceased); brother, Raymond Robinson (Deceased); and sisters, Thelma Robinson-Givens (Deceased) and Bernice Robinson-Rose (Deceased). Mildred was the last surviving member of her original family.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Fields-Rice, with whom she made her home; son, Michael "Mike" Anthony Fields (B. 1960) & wife Tammy Fields; grandsons, Alan Rice & fiancée Linda, and Stephen Fields & wife Angela Fields; great grandsons, Jacob Rice & wife Hayley Rice, Shane Fields and Zachary Fields; and great granddaughter, Michaela Mathena.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 12:00 with Reverend Randall Dority and Pastor Ernie Williams officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger. Burial will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens on the Bluefield/Tazewell Road in Bluefield, VA.
