Father of Jonesville.Jonesville was named in honor of James Jones who built a hotel in 1820 on the Waterford-Saratoga Turnpike. Located on the corner of what is now MacElroy Road and Main Street, the hotel burned down in 1915.In 1864 when the Jonesville Cemetery was founded, the headstones and perhaps the family’s remains were moved to the new cemetery from the closed Union Grove Cemetery on Main Street.
