Obituary for Hurley "Pap" Haga
On Thursday, August 13th at 6:01pm our beloved grandfather Hurley Haga (Pap) went home to be with Jesus and many other family and friends that went before him.
Born May 12th, 1930 in Atkins Virginia to George and May Haga, he was one of six Haga boys- George Jr, Pem, Donald, Mike and Billy. The stories of the mischievous Haga boys were many!
It was the Army that brought him from Maryland to Tacoma Wa, but he retired Civil Service. He couldn't sit still so he was a cabinet maker at his own shop for several years and finally retired again from bus driving when he was 85!
Pap met his first wife Ann when he was 19. They were together 35 years. Ann brought Mary and Joanne into the family and soon James (Jr) and Etta Jean came along.
After Ann's passing, he met Ardy and they were together 25 years. They loved to travel and did so frequently. His favorite trip was in 1986 when they drove their motor home through Mexico.
Pap loved hunting (mostly bear and moose) and fishing. He raised Bluetick hounds, with his favorite hound being Smokey. He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time camping at Lake Cushman and fishing/shrimping/crabbing Hood Canal. He also loved motorcycles- especially Harley's- and was a member of HOG for many years.
We will miss his infectious smile, his outgoing personality that made friends with everyone, his teasing/goofiness, but mostly his unconditional love for his family- many of whom he is now reunited with!
Viewing will be Wed. Sept. 9th from 10a-4p and Services will be 2pm Thur. Sept. 10th at Mountain View Cemetery in Lakewood Wa. There will be a live stream for those that cannot attend. Services by invitation due to space restrictions.
