Charlotte Arlene Franklin, 85, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away August 13, 2020 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. She was born October 23, 1934 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Roy and Opal Randall Bennett. Charlotte was a lifelong Hutchinson resident. She attended Hutchinson and Buhler High Schools. Charlotte was a school bus driver for Buhler USD 313 and was a cook at Prosperity and Union Valley School's from 1963, until her retirement in 2003. She also worked at Duffin Optical Company, Hutchinson, assembling glasses and was a drug store clerk. Charlotte attended Salt City Cowboy Church in South Hutchinson; was a member of Moose Lodge #982 Motorcyle Club, and was an avid member of the Red Dale Camper Club known as the Rambling Jawhawks. She enjoyed cooking; gardening; loved traveling in their motorhome; playing softball in her early years; and most of all spending time with her family. On June 13, 1952, Charlotte was united in marriage with Lloyd Eldon Franklin in Hutchinson. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her daughter, Pam Jean Sims of Hutchinson; three sisters, Bonnie Harmon of Albuquerque, NM, Beverly Oglesby of Bakersfield, CA, and Marsha Edmonds and husband Glenn of Hutchinson; five grandchildren, Shane Blanton, Shawn Wing, Brandon Vagts, Jill Whitson, and Valene Newell; and nine great-grandchildren. Charlotte is preceded in death by her parents; and two daughters, Shirley Joan McGraw and Kathy Marie “Kay” Vagts. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 28, 2020 with Rev. J.R. Spellman officiating at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling.
