He was born on August 5, 1915, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the son of Willard and Ruth Regan Bunn. He married Nancy Heidrich on March 30, 1940 in Peoria, Illinois.
Mr. Bunn graduated from The Lawrenceville School and attended Princeton University.
He was a United States Marine and served on Peleliu in the South Pacific during World War II.
Mr. Bunn was the founder and Chairman of Bunn-O-Matic Corp., and Chairman of Bunn Capitol Corp. He was active in farming and enjoyed a lifelong involvement with horses. He also served on numerous boards over the years, including the original Springfield Marine Bank, St. John's Hospital Lay Advisory Board, The Lawrenceville School Board of Trustees, McMurray College Board of Trustees, SIU Medical School Board of Directors and The National Cutting Horse Association. He was a member of the original Committee for the formation of Sangamon State University, now University of Illinois at Springfield. Throughout his life he actively supported many charitable organizations. He was a member of Christ the King Parish and numerous clubs and associations, including Illini Country Club and the Sangamo Club.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy; two sons, George R. (wife, Jane) Bunn, Jr. of New York, NY and Arthur H. ( wife, Nancy) Bunn of Springfield; two daughters, Pamela B. (husband James) Brown of Springfield and Deborah B. Alley of Northport Point, Michigan; 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth B. Taylor of Delray Beach, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Msgr. David S. Lantz celebrant. Private burial in Calvary Cemetery.
