Nancy grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from W.B. Ray High School. Shortly after she went to work as a secretary for Merrill Lynch. She married her loving husband Roger Vernon on October 27, 1972. Nancy & Roger and their three children moved to Houston in 1973.
Roger went to work for the Coastal Corporation and Nancy worked hard to become one of the few female Vice Presidents of Institutional Trading at Merrill Lynch and to be named the President of the Bond Club.
Nancy and her family lived in Houston until she was transferred to Dallas in 1990. Nancy left Merrill Lynch and moved back to Houston with her family where she returned to work for a few years until happily retiring in 1993.
Nancy and Roger are long-time members of the Unity Church where Nancy served as a board member and usher.
She loved to attend retreats, outings, and special events with her close group of lady friends known as the Ballerinas. The Ballerinas had a special bond with each other and gave Nancy joy for decades. Nancy was also a life-long reader and was an enthusiastic member of her book club for many years.
One of Nancy’s greatest joys were her beloved pets. She worked hard to have her dog Lacey certified as a pet therapy animal. Nancy and Lacey loved to visit nursing homes and the students at Lone Star College during finals week.
She loved to travel, especially with her family and grandchildren to the beach, amusement parks and Disney.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Howard, and Lee Hanley, older sister, Norma, and daughter Dana. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Roger, daughter Christi and her husband John, son Alan and his wife Erin and her grandchildren, Lucas, and Julia.
A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, August 18,2020 at the Unity Church of the Woodlands with a private graveside service in Corpus Christi on Thursday, August 20, 2020.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations to the Unity of The Woodlands, 25817 Gosling Road, The Woodlands, 77389, the Houston SPCA or Boys and Girls Country.
