Evangelist Edna Hamilton was born in Farmville, VA on November 14, 1921 to Clarence Mack and Betty (Scott) Edwards the sixth of seven children. She peacefully entered into her eternal life with God on December 3, 2017 at the age of 96.
Evangelist Hamilton left Farmville, VA and moved to Newark, NJ at an early age. She was educated in the Newark Public Schools. Evangelist Hamilton met and married the love of her life William Hamilton, Jr. on June 29, 1941. They were married forty-nine years, and had two children; a son, Curtis and a daughter, Dorothy.
Evangelist Hamilton joined Randall Chapel Unified Freewill Baptist Church shortly after her late husband Bro. William Hamilton, Jr. renewed his membership more than fifty years ago. Evangelist Hamilton was a very active, dedicated, and faithful member.
God elevated and called Evangelist Hamilton to preach His Word. She served as a Sunday School Teacher for the young people. She served for many years on the Missionary Board, visiting and caring for the sick. It was well known that Evangelist Hamilton traveled far and near to help those in need. The fact that she used public transportation spoke even more of her faithfulness and dedication.
Evangelist Hamilton also served as a church Mother. She was lovingly referred to as “Mother Teresa of Randall Chapel”. She was the recipient of numerous awards and plaques for her tireless efforts in the Mission field.
At the age of ninety, Evangelist Hamilton continued her missionary work. She visited the sick and shut-in with the Deacons and Bishop and First Lady Little, offering words of comfort and prayer.
Evangelist Hamilton resided at 111 Miller Street, Newark, NJ for over 50 years. Her home was open to everyone. She fed the hungry, provided shelter, cared for children and prayed for everyone. When you were in Evangelist Hamilton’s home, you felt safe and loved.
Evangelist Hamilton relocated to East Orange, NJ where she resided with her daughter, Dorothy and son-in-law, Henry A. Darden and continued to be a source of comfort to everyone.
Her testimony was “The Lord has been so good to me. I will continue to be a soldier on the battlefield for the Lord.”
Evangelist Edna Hamilton leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Dorothy Darden; daughter-in-law, Catherine Hamilton; son-in-law, Henry A. Darden; grandchildren Curt Hamilton (Teresa), Evonne Tucker (Reginal), and Tara Scales Williams (Krystaufeux); and great-grandchildren, Shannay Tucker, Malaysia Tucker, Alfred Hamilton, Destyni Hamilton, and Ocean Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hamilton, Jr.; son, Curtis Maurice Hamilton; grandson, Todd Hamilton Scales; great-grandson Elias D. Stevens; and siblings, Rosa Motley, Thelma Robinson, Dorothy Pierce, Katherine Bell, James Edwards, and Anderson Edwards. She is also survived by a host of wonderful nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
