In the Revolutionary War, boat Captain Samuel Lockwood kept a longboat hidden in Greenwich Cove. They would row across the Sound and burn British ships off Long Island. Later, he was a military Captain in Col. Lamb's Artillery when he marched with General Montgomery and he was a hero in the storming of Quebec in October, 1775. He was captured there and released after the war.
