LeRoy Freeman, 76, died Friday, January 20, 2017 in Amarillo, Texas
Graveside service were held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 3:00 pm in Memorial Park Cemetery Dalhart, TX. Under the direction of Horizon Funeral Home, Dalhart, Texas.

Officiating was by Steve Patterson, Pastor, Central United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Carol of Dalhart, TX, a son Bret and his wife Stacy of Hugo, OK, Two brothers: Marson Milton Freeman of Clinton, OK and Donald Max and wife Shary Freeman of Denton, TX. A four-legged furry boxer, Sadee, Sisters in law: Gay Monroe of Amarillo, TX, Dot Bradshaw and husband David of Moore, OK, and Lynn Rutledge of Aurora, CO. a brother in law Don Koehler of Bakersfield, CA and numerous nieces and nephews including Jeff Freeman of Dalhart, TX.

Melvin LeRoy Freeman was born September 22,1940 to Jess and Bessie (Matthews) Freeman in Ventura, CA. LeRoy graduated from Dalhart High School in 1959 where he participated in football and track. On July 24, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Koehler, in Amarillo, TX. LeRoy entered the US Air Force on August 7, 1959 he was an aircraft mechanic working search and rescue before being honorably discharged on August 6,1963. While stationed in Hawaii LeRoy and Carol’s Son Bret was born.

Prior to joining the Air Force LeRoy had worked for the Rock Island Railroad and upon returning to civilian life he resumed his career with the railroad where he worked for 42 years.

LeRoy loved singing and playing the guitar; Elvis Presley was one of his favorite entertainers. He was an avid reader and history buff and he and Carol enjoyed traveling during retirement.

LeRoy is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Bessie Freeman, brother Bill and his wife Melba, his mother and father in law, Hubert and Celia Koehler, sister in law, JoAnn Koehler, Brother in law Foy Monroe and nephew Curtis Freeman.
