Growing up Douglas first lived with his uncle Robert Mensah, senior brother of David San-Thomas at Alahbar, Kumasi in the Ashanti region where his education began at the St. Augustine primary school. At age 16, he moved to Accra to live with his mother and attended the then Ham International School. He transitioned his education to St. Augustine College, Cape Coast, Ghana.
A year after Douglas's 6th form education from the Accra Academy Secondary School, he joined his parents Mrs. Marian Sanni-Thomas and the elate Mr. David Sanni-Thomas in the U.S. in the year 1990. Douglas instantly formed a strong bond with his mother, father and brothers in the United States that not even a lightning bolt could separate them.
His mother was very instrumental in almost all of Douglas' achievements. He relied on the counsel of his parents in making sound and key decisions in his life. With that counsel he decided to pursue his education at the University of Texas at Arlington where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and then furthered in more to obtain a master's degree in Finance and a Accounting from North Carolina Central University.
Douglas decided to enlist himself in the United States Army to addd some structure and discipline to his life.
