Herbert Wilson “Buddy” Roberts, age 85 of the Mundytown community of North Tazewell, VA passed away Thursday, August 13, 2020 at his home. Born July 29, 1935 he was a son of the late Wilson and Louisa Bailey Roberts. He was a member of Horse Creek Church of the Living God. Mr. Roberts was an ordained minister. He was a self-made man. Over the years, he owned and operated coal mines, beef and dairy farms, a sawmill-logging business, and a long haul trucking business. He loved his family, especially his wife of 67 years and enjoyed reading his bible. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Edith Hurley, Hazel Bailey, Fannie Roberts, Margaret Bailey, and Fayette Roberts; brothers, Oscar Roberts, Harman Roberts, Millard Roberts, Pharaoh Roberts, Robert Paul Roberts, and Edgar Roberts.
He is survived by his wife, Lorine Stacy Roberts; sons, Herbert D. “H.D.” Roberts and wife, Brenda and Derrick Roberts all of North Tazewell, VA; daughter, Diana Roberts of Tazewell, VA; brother, Douglas Roberts of Green River, WY; sister, Nancy Belle Walls of Iaeger, WV; special daughter in law, Sue Carr and husband, David; grandchildren, Christopher Roberts, Heather Swinney and husband, Kerry, Matthew Cole and wife, Kate, and Joanna Crockett; seven great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12 Noon until 2 PM Monday, August 17, 2020 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home in Tazewell, VA. Graveside services will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Bluefield, VA with Pastor John Wheeler officiating.
