Joseph Welles is the third son of Capt. Robert Welles and Elizabeth Goodrich. His grandfather was John Welles, and his great grandfather was Governor Thomas Welles, the fourth governor of the colony of Connecticut.
He married Hannah Robbins, 6 January, 1708/09 in Wethersfield. Hannah was the daughter of Capt. Joshua Robbins, and Elizabeth whose surname is not noted; Hannah was born 10 June 1688 also in Wethersfield.
He died before 7 January 1744/45 When his will was proven. She died before 6 August 1765 when her second husband's real estate was distributed.
