Joyce Evan was born February 17, 1932, in Mankato, MN, the daughter of Albert and Mary Hawker. She attended Mapleton Country School and town schools for 11 years and graduated from Alden High School in 1949. On June 30, 1953, she was united in marriage to Eugene Evan at St. Teresa Catholic church in Mapleton, MN. Together they lived in Minnesota Lake for five years, farming the Evan's home farm along with Eugene's brother. After selling the farm, Eugene attended Lee's Barber College. They moved to Wells in 1965 where Eugene opened his Barber shop until 2006.
Joyce's most important job was a homemaker. She loved being with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends, and pets. Joyce was a member of numerous organizations including, St. Casimir's prayer group, former Hospital Auxiliary, VFW Women's Auxiliary, Legion Member, W.C.C.W of Winona, and C.C.W. St. Gregory's. She loved God and the Catholic Church, which was very important in her life.
Joyce is survived by her children: Therese (Julie) Evan, Joseph (Debra) Evan, Deborah Hendrickson, Thomas (Wendy) Evan and Mary Beth (Kevin) Lesto; 12 grandchildren: Angela (Chris) Jones, Christine (Michael) Hasselman, Victoria (Becky) Evan, Candace Evan, Brittney (Jason) Dovenberg, Dylan Hendrickson, Alexander Evan (Nicole Paterson), Nathan Evan, Elizabeth Evan, Jocelyn Lesto, Grant Lesto, and Gage Lesto; 10 great-grandchildren: Tyler Jones, Parker Jones, Noah Hasselman, Gracelyn Hasselman, Benjamin Evan, Nicholas Evan, Orion Hendrickson, Nova Hendrickson, Brock Dovenberg, and Cade Dovenberg; along with numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
She is preceded in death by her husband Eugene; two children in infancy; and her parents Albert and Mary Hawker; sisters: Catherine (Glen) McCarthy, Madelyn (Ike) Anderson, Agnes (Jim) Stencel, and Joan (Glen) Geary; brothers: LuVerne (Hazel) Hawker, Clarence "Bud" (Lorna) Hawker, Edward (Elvera) Hawker; brothers and sisters in-laws: James & Jean Evan, Alvina "Sis" & Roger Giese, and David & Anna Evan, and several nieces, nephews, and her many beloved pets.
