Undated Obituary – Unknown Richland Center Newspaper (From family scrapbook)

Mrs. Maria (Norman) Leatherberry died December 17th, 1898, aged sixty years, one month and five days. She was born at Ontario Canada, November 12th, 1838. She came with her parents to Watertown, Jefferson county in 1850. In 1855 she came to Henrietta, Richland county, and remained with her parents until 1858. She was then married to Thomas Leatherberry. With her husband she moved to Melancthon creek which has since been her home. She leaves a husband, eight children, three daughters and five sons, thirteen grand children and five brothers and a host of friends to mourn her loss. She bore her sufferings patiently and died in peace and a full assurance of gaining a (cannot read) heaven. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Smeltzer at her home. A large crowd of relatives and friends followed the remains to their resting place in the Yuba cemetery. Our home is bereft of a loving wife, a warm hearted mother and a kind friend.

The precious seed of weeping
Toady we sow once more,
O'er the form of one now sleeping
Whose pilgrimage is o'ver

Ah! death but safely lands her
Where we too would attain;
Our Father's voice demands her,
And death to her is gain.

Safely in her Saviours keeping,
Who sent her calm release
Tis only we who are weeping–
She dwells in perfect peace.
