Mark Allen Saxton, age 68, of Leon, Iowa, was born November 8, 1951, in Atlantic, Iowa to Russel Johnson Saxton and Agnes Virginia (Nielsen) Saxton. He died at his home at Terrace Park Assisted Living in Leon, Iowa on August 11, 2020.

The family moved to Davis City, Iowa in March of 1953, and Mark attended grade school in Pleasanton and Davis City. He attended high school in Leon and graduated with the class of 1969.

After graduation, Mark joined his father and brothers in heavy construction work until he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country from May 13, 1971, until February 23, 1973. After his honorable discharge he returned to the family construction business and primarily operated the excavator. In 1997, Mark became an employee at United Construction for a year and then worked for Kent Construction until his health forced his retirement in February 2017.

Mark enjoyed socializing at Good Times in Decatur, Iowa and relaxing at home, reading Zane Grey books and watching all kinds of westerns on TV when he was not on a job.

When his health worsened Mark moved in with his brother, Jay, and wife, Carol, for several months before moving to Terrace Park Assisted Living. He enjoyed watching and participating in the activities of the facility. He greatly appreciated all the staff and helpers at Terrace Park.

Mark is survived by his sister, Priscilla (Ralph) Croxdale of Marshalltown, Iowa; brother, Steve (Thelma) Saxton of Chariton, Iowa; and brother, Jay (Carol) Saxton of Leon; aunts and an uncle; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russel and Agnes Saxton; sister-in-law, Vicki Saxton; and nieces, Marcie Saxton Cummings and Caitlyn Saxton.
