Willie Lewis Craig was born into this life on September 1, 1950 in Sparkman, Arkansas to the union of Arch and Eva Taylor Craig. He accepted Christ as a young boy and united with Macedonia Baptist Church. He grew up in a home where he was taught to work and work hard.

He was a 1968 graduate of the Sparkman Training School. Curious and excited about the possibilities of a life outside of Arkansas he left for Rockford, Illinois. He united with Gomez AME Church and while there in Rockford he met the beautiful Lillian, they were married in 1975 and blessed with three sons. One of his first jobs was with Rockford Products. He soon realized that he wanted to make some money in the entertainment industry. He was the owner and operator of the 15th Ave Bar in Rockford. At that time it was one of the most popular social clubs in the city. He loved all genres of music, especially Blues. He was an avid motorcycle rider and enjoyed playing in weekend softball games.

Willie was a man of many nicknames including, but not limited to: “Babe Willie”, “Smokey”, “Mr. Willie”, “Gator” and “The Babe”. He was a man amongst men, whose laughter and embrace will never be forgotten. His life was simple, but not empty.

In his later years, Willie was only slowed down because of his declining health, but his spirit remained thankful. He relocated to Arkadelphia for recuperation and strength-building, while regaining a self-renewed strength for life. He loved being closer to his family, friends and community who had first inspired him to seek out a well-rounded and fulfilling life.

He was a loving father, thoughtful son, supportive brother and a great friend. To know him was to love him and his presence will forever be missed. On Sunday, October 15, 2017, he quietly slept into the Lord's embrace. He was preceded in passing by his nephew, Donnie Juniel (August 28, 2000); his father, Arch Craig (February 22, 2010) and his sister, Phillis O. Juniel (May 23, 2016).

To cherish his memories Willie leaves behind three sons: Steven (Susan) Craig of Lakeville, MN, Willie R. “Dell” Craig of Rockford, IL and Brandon Craig of Rockford, IL; his mother Eva Craig of Little Rock, AR; three sisters, Eva Burks of Little Rock, AR, Morrice (Gregory) McKenzie of Sherwood and Archie Craig of Little Rock; eight grandchildren; love of his life and special friend, Lillian “Bunny” Craig of Rockford, IL. He also leaves several aunts, uncles and a legion of nieces, nephews, cousins, numerous friends.
