Another veteran of the Civil war, a resident of Fairbury, has passed away. John Wesley Dodd died at his home in Fairbury, at 606 McDowell St., on Sunday afternoon Sept. 28, at four o'clock. His last illness covered a period of three months, but his strength had been failing for a much longer period, he being 79 years and 8 months old at the time of his death.
Mr. Dodd was born January 28, 1840, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was married in Fairbury Sept. 12, 1888 to Carrie Libby. They had three children, Lorena, wife of Jas. Chambers of Fairbury, Evelyn deceased, and Clifford, who resides in Fairbury.
There are also besides his wife, six brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Dodd came to Fairbury about thirty years ago, and worked at his trade of plasterer and stone mason. He was a member of the Baptist church and of the G. A. R. He served thru the entire Civil War and was promoted to second lieutenant.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 o'clock, at the home, conducted by Rev. Buckner of the Christian church. Interment was in the Fairbury cemetery.
Those present from elsewhere were C. B. Dodd, and daughter and her son, of Reno County, Kans.; Mrs. McCrimmon and son of Lincoln.
