Randall Carter Gray died of a heart attack in his home on December 13, 2021. Randy was a talented writer, artist, and musician with a wildly creative mind. He worked as a reporter for the Chattanooga Times Free Press before working for many years in graphic design, marketing, and freelance writing. In the mid-late 1990's, Randy was involved in community theater, performing in local productions such as Oliver Twist (The Chattanooga Little Theater), The Wizard of Oz (Signal Mountain Playhouse), and The King and I (Signal Mountain Playhouse). His artwork was displayed on t-shirts at the Tennessee Aquarium for several years, and his work from his later years was displayed and sold at The Hart Gallery in downtown Chattanooga.

Randy married his high school sweetheart, Susan, from Chattanooga City High School, and together they had two children. Randy loved the season of Christmas, listening to the Beatles, watching the Atlanta Braves and Tennessee Titans, and strumming on his guitar.

Randy was a disabled veteran of the US Navy, serving in Ethiopia during the Vietnam-era War. Randy lived a great portion of his life suffering from mental illness during a time when mental illness was not openly discussed; a true testament to the impact mental illness can have on a life when it remains stigmatized and unaddressed.

Randy is preceded in death by his father, John L. Gray, his mother, Barbara C. Gray, his wife, Susan M. Gray, and his son Evan M. Gray. Randy is survived by his daughter, his two grandsons, as well as his two brothers.
