Dorothy "Dot" (Martin) Long of Everett, passed away Aug. 5, 2020.
She graduated from Everett High School and the Malden School of Business. She was accredited in American Sign Language by Boston University. She worked at H&R Block for 30 years and retired as District Manager.

She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Malden where she served on the Finance Board, Building Council, taught Sunday School and was a food pantry volunteer. Dot also served as an original member of the North Shore Black Women's Association. She was passionate about volunteer work and contributing to her community.

Beloved wife of the late Walter Long, Sr. and loving mother of Jonathan of Saugus and Walter, Jr. of Everett. Also survived by 3 grandchildren and two brothers, Richard of Everett and Robert of Marlborough.

At the family's request, Services will be private followed by Burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery. A Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held at a later date.

Dorothy Long (Martin) passed away on August 5 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dot was born in Everett on October 31 1939, one of nine children of the late Jerry and Lucy Martin. Dot was a lifelong resident of Everett. She graduated from Everett High School and the Malden School of Business. She was accredited in American Sign Language by Boston University. She worked at H&R Block for 30 years and retired as District Manager.

She was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Malden where she served on the Finance Board, Building Council, taught Sunday School and was a food pantry volunteer. Dot also served as an original member of the North Shore Black Women's Association.

She was passionate about volunteer work and contributing to her community. In the past, she served on the Board of Directors for the Devens School, the Malden YMCA and the Mystic Valley Elder Services. She was also an Election Warden for the city of Everett. She was also a member of the Everett School Committee and a member of the City's Diversity and Equity Task Force. In 2009, she was elected Commissioner to the Everett Charter Commission, where she and her fellow members modernized and rewrote the City's constitution. In 2016 Dot was recognized for her years of community service and activism and was presented with City Council Citation. In 2018 she was honored at Gillette Stadium as a "Patriots Difference Maker" for her volunteer commitment to Housing Families, Inc where she dedicated 16 years tutoring homeless children. Helping children and their families brought her such joy.

Dot's greatest pride and joy was her family and friends. Dot was the beloved wife of the late Walter H. Long Sr.

Dot's faith in God was unwavering. Through her strong faith, she tirelessly mentored family, friends, neighbors and even strangers. She was a compassionate, wise and loving pillar of strength to her loved ones. When asked where she found her strength she would simply smile and say "God". She loved to remind anyone that was struggling that "All it takes is all you've got." Dot served God, her church, her community and her loved ones with pride, dedication, love and wisdom. She will live on in the hearts of everyone she loved. Her journey has only just begun. At the family's request, services will be private followed by a burial in Puritan Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by The Murphy OHara Funeral Home 519 Broadway Everett.
