Phyllis Cook Boyd was born in Coatesville, PA to the late Charles L. and Mary Ann Cook. She was the youngest of six children, all deceased.
She was a member of the old St. Cyril’s Episcopal Church and recently of the Episcopal Church of the Trinity, Coatesville.
Phyllis was a graduate of Horace Scott Senior High School, Coatesville, PA and earned a Bachelor Degree in Secondary Education at Chicago State University, Chicago, IL. She taught high school in Chicago for many years before retiring and returning to Coatesville, where she occasionally was a substitute teacher in the Coatesville Area School District.
Phyllis was a past member of the Vestry of the Episcopal Church of the Trinity, a past member of the Board of Directors of the Coatesville Day Care Center, a member of AARP, a past member of the Coatesville Civil Service Commission, and a member of Retired Teachers of Chicago. She was also a longtime volunteer at Brandywine Hospital.
Phyllis loved to travel and enjoyed reading, bowling, and sewing.
Phyllis had one son by the name of Stephan P. Curry. She is survived by a nephew Gary Cook of Columbia, PA; a dear friend, Rachel Brown of Chicago, IL. and several great nephews and nieces.
Phyllis was predeceased by her parents Charles L. and Mary Ann (nee Henderson) Cook, brothers, Charles Cook, Haywood P. Cook and three other siblings, niece Irma L. Bailey, and nephews Andre and Michael Cook.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Visitation 10:00-10:30 AM Friday, August 14, 2020 at Episcopal Church of the Trinity, 323 E. Lincoln Highway, Coatesville, PA 19321, followed by her Funeral Mass 10:30 AM. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Compass, PA.
