Glenda Dale (Kirkman) (Buchanan) Dean, 63, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, after a short illness. Born Jul. 06, 1947 in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Addie Wilson and George W. Kirkman. Educated in Rowan-Salisbury schools, she also graduated from Rowan-Cabarrus Community College School of Nursing, with an R.N. degree. Employed by Rowan Regional Medical Center and NorthEast Medical Center, she retired from W. G. Hefner VA Medical Center. Mrs. Dean was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She really enjoyed working with her house plants. Preceding her in death were brothers, Clyde, Marvin and Jimmy Kirkman. Survivors include her lifetime companion Ernie Buchanan, Sr.; daughter Lana "Loni" Ashby (Jay); sons, Kenneth Kirkman and Brad Buchanan (Heather); brother John Kirkman (Jan); sisters, Betty Threadgill, all of Salisbury, Mary Kennamer (Ken) of South Carolina and Marsha Trexler; sisters-in-law, Mary, Bobbie Jean and Thelma Kirkman, all of Salisbury ; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5:00-7:00 p.m. - Friday, Oct. 22, 2010 at Lyerly Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the residence.
