Claude Eugene “Gene” Bennett, II, age 53, of Sedalia, Missouri, formerly of Lamar, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020, at Four Seasons Living Center in Sedalia.

Gene was born September 15, 1966, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Claude and Margie (Webb) Bennett. He was raised in Lamar and graduated from Lamar High School. Following high school, Gene worked at the Sheltered Workshop for several years, fulfilling various positions while there. He loved their family dog, Sampson, while growing up. Gene had a stuffed animal collection he was very proud of. He also loved Snoopy and watching movies. Gene loved his family and friends and he will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude Bennett and Margie Porter; and his grandparents, Anderson and Margie Webb.

Survivors include his sister, Rebecca Showalter, of Joplin; his uncle, John Webb, of Joplin; niece and nephew, Jeremy and Mecala Showalter; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2020, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lamar with Rev. John Veazey officiating. Open viewing will be held at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joplin Humane Society in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
