Jim David Smith, 77, of Murchison, TX passed away August 8, 2020 at his home.

David was born on June 24, 1943 in Pampa, TX to Wayne and Muriel Smith.

David’s passions were for anything concerning old cars or guns. He could often be found at car shows or target practice with his friends. He was also an avid collector of “stuff.”

David is a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, multiple Purple Hearts, Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He served in the Army from March 1961 to March 1964 and then again from December 1967 to May 1969 attached to the 1st Cavalry.

David was a retired police officer (certified Master Peace Officer) who worked in various police agencies including Hays County Sheriff’s Office, Blanco County Sheriff’s Office, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Brownsboro Police Department, Van Zandt County Constable’s Office and was Constable, Precinct 4, Van Zandt County.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Ann Frey and her husband Bert Lee Frey, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Smith, his brothers, Ronald Wayne Smith and Jeffrey Arnold Smith, his father, Samuel Wayne Smith and his mother, Muriel Irene Smith.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 13, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Due to health concerns with the ongoing pandemic, the cemetery has limited the number of attendees to a small number of family and closest friends.
