She was born Feb. 27, 1889, in Grant County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Martha Sprague Umphress. She married Edward Eis in 1906 in Rock Island, and he preceded her in death in 1916 (March 1917). She later married William Barthel in Dixon on Aug. 8, 1923 and he preceded her in death in 1959. Mrs. Barthel had previously resided in Davenport, Iowa, and Tucson, Ariz.
She was a member of Caledonia Congregational Church and the Ladies Aid Society.
In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Fay Cain, she is survived by six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Ferne Sharp of Tucson.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, two daughters, one son, and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held in Runges Mortuary, Kimberly Road, Davenport, Iowa, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home in Davenport from 9 a.m. Tuesday until time of service.
A memorial has been established in her name for the Caldedonia Congregational Church.

Leola R. Eis has commenced suit for a divorce from Edwin J. Eis, alleging desertion. The plaintiff asks for alimony and attorney's fees and the custody of their three minor children. Louis Roddewig is the attorney for the plaintiff.

Edward E. Eis died Friday afternoon at the County hospital following an illness of six months. His death was due to tuberculosis. Mr. Eis was 38 years of age and was a native of Montpelier, Ia.
Surviving the deceased are his widow, three daughters and eight brothers and two sisters.
The body was shipped Saturday afternoon from the Halligan undertaking parlors to Montpelier where interment was made.

The body of Edward J. Eis, whose death occurred Friday afternoon at the Scott County Tuberculosis hospital, was taken this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Halligan funeral parlors to Montpelier, Ia., the former home of the deceased, where burial followed late this afternoon in the family lot of the Montpelier cemetery. Mr. Eis had been an inmate of the hospital the past five months. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lola Eis, three daughters, two sisters, Mrs. F. Lowry, Montpelier and Mrs. Louis Dietrich of Muscatine and eight brothers, Charles, Fred and Frank of Muscatine. Samuel of Fairport, William of Montpelier, Albert of Canada and R.I. and B.C. of Des Moines. The later came here to make arrangements for the funeral.
