Gone to Eternal Rest!

Once again relentless Death has felled an oak in the German forest. Our worthy Mr. Johann Brune was called to a better world last Sunday afternoon at 20 minutes after one o'clock.

Johann Friederich Brune was born March 4, 1819 in Horste, Prussia and died on October 9, 1898; having reached the age of 79 years, 7 months and 5 days. His illness, which was of short duration, was an inflammation of the lungs aggravated at the last by a heart ailment. He came to America in the year 1847, and two years later was married to Miss Katherine Wilhelmine Charlotte Riecke. In the year 1865 he came to Kansas and settled in Douglas County. Besides a grieving wife, he is survived by four children, three sons, Messrs. Gustav, William and Frank Brune, all from the Lake View area, and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Mangelsdorf of Atchison, Kansas. All were in attendance at the bier of their father. Mr. Brune was a German, root, stalk and grain, and a true Friend of "Germania", and those of German nationality have lost one of their best representatives. The funeral was held last Thursday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the German Methodist Church of which the deceased had been a member for many years. Pastor Rademacher preached a touching funeral sermon entitled "Peace Be To His Ashes", to a large gathering of mourners.
