Mexican Nobility. Agustín Cosme de Iturbide y Huarte, fifth and youngest of the imperial couple's male children, Agustín de Iturbide and Ana María de Huarte, entered the Mexican army, where he held the rank of lieutenant colonel. During the United States war against Mexico, Agustín was present in the battles of Monterrey, Buenavista, Cerro Gordo and those that were fought around Mexico City. He accompanied Santa Ana to Puebla, from where he was sent only to be taken prisoner by Captain Walkers' rangers in Huamantla, Tlaxcala, in 1847. In 1854 he was appointed Santa Ana's Campaign Assistant. He never married.
