Bessie Alice Herren Franklin, “Priss”, age 86, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Will T. Franklin, sons, Jerry Franklin (Donna) of Zavalla, TX and William “Buster” Franklin of Utica, parents, Jim and Nora Herren of Utica, MS, her brother, Billy Herren (Ruth), and sisters, Mamie Jones (George), Sybil Dawson (Andrew), Esther Schoonmaker (Carl), Hattie Flowers (Lester), and Verna Hood (Sydney). She is survived by her son, Dennis Franklin (Antoinette) of Utica, MS, her sister, Joyce Peltier (Robert) of Angleton, TX and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Priss was born on December 29, 1933 in Utica, MS. She attended Utica High School. She spent most of her adult life living in Little Yazoo, a community near Yazoo City, MS. She worked for a time at E & W garment factory in Yazoo City before earning her LPN license and subsequent RN license. She worked as a nurse at the Veterans Administration hospital in Jackson, MS until retirement. After her retirement, she and Will T. moved from Yazoo County to Utica where they lived for the past 25+ years. She was a member of Utica Christian Church.
She enjoyed outings with her sisters, playing dominoes with neighbors, and being part of her “bunco” group. She loved her Lord, her family and her church.
