David Mizell Jr married Mary Pearce of Georgia, dauhter of an English colonist, and had David, Sarah, John, Morgan, Joshua, Nancy, Thomas, and Anne. They settled on the eastern shore of Lake Mizell. He call the settlement Lake View (now Winter Park) He homesteaded 103 acres of land, built a home and planted an orange grove.
His daughter Nancy who had used a sycamore switch to guide her horse on the trek from North Florida, stuck the branch into the ground. It took root and grew to become a towering tree, for many years a landmark in Winter Park. It was the parent tree of all the sycamores in Central Florida. One of its decendants now broods over the neglected Mizell family graveyard in the Harry P Lew Gardens.
David Mizell became the first chairman of the Orange County commission in 1869 serving through 1871. He was elected to the State Legislature and was one of the signers of the Constitution of 1868.
His son David was elected the first Sheriff of Orange County
