Mr. John Dale Roper, 95 of Nashville, Tennessee went to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 9, 2020.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 74 years, Oleane Roper. Mrs. Roper passed away four weeks ago on July 14, 2020.
Mr Roper is survived by his daughters DeAnne Woods ( John) of Houston, Texas and Ellen ( Muffin) Roper of Franklin, Tennessee. He has two grandchildren, John Woods III ( Betty), and Jennifer Silcott ( John,) and three great grandchildren Marco Woods, Eric Woods and Crosslin Silcott.
Mr Roper is a WWII Veteran of the United States Navy. He was stationed on the USS Pontiac and the USS Westmoreland in the Pacific. He was in route to Hawaii when the bombing of Pearl Harbor occurred.
Mr Roper attained his under graduate and MEd degrees from Peabody College at Vanderbilt. After teaching at Hillsboro High School, he became the assistant principal at West End Junior High School, and the principal at Hume Fogg, Hillwood , and Antioch High Schools. After retirement, the Ropers enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family.
The Ropers were active members of Woodmont Baptist Church were Mr Roper served as a deacon. He enjoyed preparing the announcements and telling a joke to begin his Mens Sunday School Class.
Mr Roper will be remembered by his daughters for living his life as a true Christian gentleman. His life lessons will be with us forever.
