Larry L. Luckey of Bakersfield, Calif. passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Dec. 26, 2016. He was 81 years old.

Larry was born to Roy and Lillie Luckey in Mt. Ida, Wis. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he met his future wife, Jaynice Demmer, whom he married in September 1956.

After farming for several years, he began a long career in agricultural chemicals and fertilizer sales until he retired in 2002 and returned to Bakersfield.

Larry is survived by his wife Jaynice; daughters Desiree Rohling and Jana (Chris) Davis; sons Larry Lee Jr. (Peggy) and Richard (who passed away shortly after birth); granddaughters Colleen, Michaela, Lauren and Olivia; and brother Roswell.

Larry had an infectious personality that drew people of all ages to him. He deeply loved his family and friends and always greeted people with a big, warm smile, firm handshake and was the master of the “BIG HUG.” Words cannot begin to sum up the countless lives which Larry profoundly influenced. His heart was truly as big as all outdoors.

He was very active in his church, where he was an elder, school board member, founding member of the church golf league and Oktober Fest fund raiser.

He was most happy when he was boating, golfing, fishing, riding a horse. He loved cheering on the Wisconsin Badgers, Nebraska Cornhuskers and was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. In high school, Larry excelled in sports, which earned him full scholarships to play football for Northwestern University and Marquette University until a car accident ended his playing career.

A truly great man, devoted husband, loving dad, doting grandfather and loyal friend that the world will miss but Heaven will be “lucky” to have.

Memorial services were held at Lutheran Church of Prayer in Bakersfield, CA 93306 on Jan. 3, 2017.
