Yvonne J. Harris passed away on April 5, 2020 at Newark Beth Israel Hospital at the age of 76. Internment Services are under the direction of Woody Home for Services in Orange, NJ and Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair, NJ.

Yvonne was born in Branchville, VA to William and Lessie Mae Joyner. She attended Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina where she obtained a degree in Elementary Education, she then went on to earn her Master’s degree from Long Island University in New York. Yvonne taught First Grade at Kentopp Elementary School in East Orange, NJ for over 25 years. Upon retirement she moved to Milford, CT where she resided for many years. She was a faithful member and President of the Ushers Board , which she loved, at First Baptist Church of Milford. Yvonne recently relocated back to New Jersey. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, and dining out with family and friends.

Yvonne is survived by her daughters Colette D. Harris and Cindy Y. Smith; her sisters Gwendolyn Holman (Roosevelt) and Juanita Hobbs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers William and Reynold Joyner, and her sisters Elaine Maye and Eleanor Parikh. A host of nieces, nephews and friends will lovingly remember Yvonne.
