She was born March 2, 1931 in Durham to Walter Elijah and Mary Anne (Milan) Turner.
Velma worked in housekeeping until retirement.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Harris; parents; five brothers, Dossie Turner, Johnnie Turner, Leon Turner, Cecil Turner and Norman Turner; and one sister, Joan Turner.
She is survived by one sister, Rosie Vanover (and husband, Harrison) of Durham; one brother, Leonard Turner of Wichita, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Beard’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Henshaw officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
Burial will be in McCord Cemetery.
