Sonja Giddens Baker, 65, of Tifton passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown with the Rev. Gary Cadwell officiating . Mrs. Baker was laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Born February 28, 1955 in Brooks County, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late George Curtis Giddens and Mary Nell Lee Giddens Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Rudolph Baker; her step-father, Hance Smith; three brothers, Terrell Colie “Terry” Smith, Wyndell Smith and Alfred Smith; and one sister, Janice Allen Singleton. She retired from K-Mart, but was a long-time employee of the Varsity. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Kelltown.

Mrs. Baker is survived by three sisters and one brother-in-law, Judy Ross, Laura and Bob Babbitt and Susan Walker, all of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Helena Smith of Tifton; six nieces and their husbands, Chenoa Coker, Desiree and Danny Gonzales, Marie and Robert Lupinek, Kerry Smith, Jennifer Smith and Marielle Smith; seven nephews and their wives, Franklin Allen, Brian Ross, Rusty and Aubrey Vaughn, Chip and Amy Watson, Michael and Kim Babbitt, Christian Smith and Patrick Smith ; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
