Came to Orlando from Tennessee in 1873. His soldier life was served with honor in the Confederate Army, 2nd Lieutenant, Co. H, 5th Tennessee Infantry and out of a roll of thirteen hundred he was one of thirty who were left to surender under Gen Joseph E Johnson at Saulsbury N.C.


He settled in the Conway area and engaged in the cattle and citrus business. He was elected three times as a member of the lower house of the FLorida State Legislature and at seventy five was elected to the State Senate. He also served as Justice of the Peace. Among the important bills passed and in which he was proud to serve his people was that empowering the County Commissioners to plant shade trees on the public highways.

He married Sarah Mizell, daughter of David Mizell Jr, the pioneer settler of Winter Park. He had four children, Sarah, married Frank Cullen, Ethel, Cora Belle, and John.
