Funeral services for Melba Dean McElveen Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Beech Grove Congregational Methodist Church with Reverend Bill Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Beech Grove Cemetery under the direction of Jeane’s Funeral Service.

A visitation time for the family and friends of Mrs. Smith will be held at the church on Friday, October 25th from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Melba was born January 19, 1939, and passed away October 22, 2019, at the age of 80. She was a 1957 graduate of Anacoco High School and was a faithful supporter of Anacoco basketball. Melba was a friendly, talkative lady who enjoyed playing Bingo, dancing, fishing, and solving puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and would travel long distances, even to Hawaii, to visit them.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Coke Pierce McElveen and Eddie Almadia Addison McElveen and all of her brothers and sisters.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Henry Earl Smith, sons, James Edwin “Bubba” Smith and Kennley Wade “Skeeter” Smith and wife Kandiss all of Anacoco, LA, daughters, Tresa Smith Harris of Leesville, LA; Mannah Schmidt and husband Tommy of Harrison, AR; and Kaycila Gerbig and husband Chris of Saliada, CO, grandchildren, Keith Lee Smith, Kevin Lynn Smith, Kyle Lane Smith, Kennedi Smith, Kinzley Smith, Jason D. Schmidt, Cola E. Enriquez, Josiah D. Schmidt, Tobias “Toby” E. Schmidt, Shane Gerbig, and Alexa Gerbig, great grandchildren, Jazmine Enriquez and Natalie Enriquez, and a host of extended family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Chris Gerbig, Tommy Schmidt, Joe Nafe, Kevin Smith, Kyle Smith, and Jason Schmidt.
