Graveside services were held on July 5th at the Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Don (Dobbey) Stanton Smith was born on December 8, 1935 in Valley Mills, Texas, to Madison Perry Smith and Ina Mae Poston Smith. Don grew up in Valley Mills, Texas. He graduated from Valley Mills High School in 1954, a state champion debater, 4 year member of the football team that won 47 games and a very involved member of his class. He attended the University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with several degrees, including a PHD in 1968. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1963.
Don was on the faculty at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, from 1968 until 1994. He had several different positions, beginning as a professor and retiring as Dean of Economics in 1994. He retired to the family farm in Mosheim in 1994.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Tex Smith and Jon David Smith.
He is survived by his brother Thomas Poston Smith and Tom’s three children Russell Smith, Kevin Smith and Melanie Fram; his loyal friend and helper Dave Harris and his faithful dog Max.
